Salora group forays into childcare biz

New Delhi , Jan. 29

DISTRIBUTION company R.P. Electronics, promoted by the Rs 1,000-crore Salora International group, today announced its foray in the fragmented and largely unorganised Rs 500-crore childcare market.

Announcing this at a press conference, Mr Ashok Chowdhary, Chief Executive, R.P. Electronics, said that the company would import baby care products under the Purple Turtle banner - a brand created for its child care products foray.

Mr Chowdhary said that R.P. Electronics would enter the childcare segment with feeding accessories, and that the company was in advanced stage of negotiations with a US-based firm for the venture. He, however, declined to divulge the name of the US firm at this stage.

While ruling out the possibility of setting up a local production facility for the foray, Mr Chowdhary said the company would concentrate on importing them.

While the company has a distribution base of 4,75,000 outlets across the country, it hopes to tap 10 per cent of these outlets for feeding accessories.

R.P. Electronics has been in the business of distributing FMCG products including Nippo batteries, besides torches and shaving systems.
