Hindi films gearing up for visual effects

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Aug. 26

HINDI films are slowly warming up to technology, especially computer graphics - be it Yashraj Films' Hum Tum, Ram Gopal Varma/K Sera Sera Productions' Gayab.

Yet another Yashraj Films' project, Dhoom releasing this week has opted for visual effects and computer graphics. Visual Computing Labs (VCL), a division of Tata Elxsi, which did the computer graphics for Hum Tum is also involved in VFZ and CGI for Dhoom.

VCL's involvement in the film included styling, designing the look of the film, opening credit sequences and multiple split images. VCL's work involved explosions, smoke, fire and gunshot simulations, morphs, body-double replacements and chroma-key techniques.

Prime Focus did the technological inputs for Gayab. Creative Eye Ltd, a television software company, is on a film project based on 3D Plus technology titled Aabra Ka Daabra.

Khakee, the film directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, had used `digital intermediate' yet another technology that was put to use in the post-production process of the film.
