Italy sees big scope in agro-based industries

Dr A. Armellini

Hyderabad , Aug. 30

ITALY is keen on having collaborations with Indian companies in the fields of information technology and agro-based activity.

Dr A. Armellini, Ambassador of Italy, has said that his country would like to focus on these two areas.

Italy found that there was a lot of scope for collaboration in agro-based industries. Some small and medium companies from Italy could do a lot in tapping the opportunity in this segment, he said.

Dr Armellini, who was here to inaugurate the `Indo-Italian workshop on IT: Education, research and industry', would meet the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to discuss possible areas for collaboration.

Addressing a news conference here on Monday, Dr Armellini said issues like outsourcing would be driven by the market considerations. "We are a market economy and it's the market and not the Government that decides on the issue," he said.

He said tourist arrivals from India into his country and vice versa went up significantly.

The University of Udine (Italy) and B.M. Birla Science Centre have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a student information solution. The three-year project is being taken up at a cost of 2,50,000 euros.

Prof. Furio Honsell, Vice-Chancellor of the university, and Dr B.G. Sidhart, Director of the centre, have signed the agreement.

The two organisations run a PhD programme in Computer Science and Mathematics and one-year Master of Information Technology course.
