Dubai airport mishap victims to get compensation

Vimala Vasan

Abu Dhabi , Oct. 5

A week after the accident at the Dubai international airport terminal, some of the 12 injured Indians are still recuperating, while others have resumed work.

Meanwhile, persistent demands by the 7,000 strong workforce, majority of whom are Indians, have compelled the contracting company to announce a compensation package for the five victims.

An Indian worker Prem Sagar from Punjab and four Pakistani workers died and many were injured when a steel reinforcement wall collapsed at the worksite of the $4.1-billion Terminal 3 project at the airport last Monday. The Indian consulate in Dubai is co-ordinating the transport of the Indian victim's body to his hometown.

The injured workers, many of whom are from Tamil Nadu, are being given paid leave and their medical expenses have been taken care of, some workers at the camps told Business Line.
