Science & Technology Government - Security Dhanush test-fired M. Somasekhar
Hyderabad , Nov. 7 THE 350-kilometres range Dhanush missile was successfully test-fired from INS Subhadra along the eastern coast of Balasore in Orissa. Dhanush Systems, developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads. It is manufactured by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL). Sunday's launch, the third, was jointly conducted by the crew of INS Subhadra and the DRDO team led by Dr V. K. Saraswat, Director of Research Centre, Imarat. The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral A. Prakash, and the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, Dr M. Natarajan, witnessed the launch on a tele-link. "The performance of the missile and launch system was outstanding and all mission parameters in terms of accuracy and range were fully met," Dr Sarawat told Business Line over telephone. According to him, the launch marks the induction of Dhanush into the Indian Navy. BDL will manufacture the system with the participation of a large number of private and public industries. Dhanush is a unique missile of its type and no other country has this class of a missile launched from a ship, Dr Saraswat added.
