Music video on AIDS awareness launched

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Nov. 30

A new music video has been launched on the eve of World AIDS Day to help bridge the gap between society and people living with HIV/AIDS. The song, `Tod Do Deewarein,' brings together 16 popular singers to spread the message of `breaking down barriers' according to a UNAIDS communique issued here on Tuesday.

The video has been conceived by the Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS in Maharashtra and produced in close collaboration with the Indian Network of Positive People, National AIDS Control Programme and UNAIDS, as part of the World AIDS Campaign 2004-05. It aims to change people's perception on AIDS and give hope to those living with it, the note said.

The video is directed by Ms Manika Sharma, with lyrics by Abbas Tyrewala and music by Jatin-Lalit. The singers include Pandit Jasraj, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik and Sukhwinder.

Dr Kenneth-Wind Andersen, UNAIDS Country Co-ordinator, said: "Our global experience has shown that music is a very effective medium for spreading the message of AIDS awareness and fighting the biases around it."
