Oxfam writes to PM on Patents Bill

OXFAM International, a non-Governmental organisation (NGO), has urged the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to ensure that the Patent (Amendment) Act, 2004 permits the fullest possible access to affordable medicines.

Mr Jeremy Hobbs, Executive Director, Oxfam, said, "In our view, the provisions of the temporary Ordinance upon which the amendment will be based have not used the full flexibilities that are available in TRIPS and will, therefore, limit the supply of affordable medicines."
