Centre to hone Rly accountants' skills

M. Somasekhar

Hyderabad , May 17

C-TARA, the Centralised Training Academy for Railways Accountants, under the Union Ministry of Railways, is all set to go functional here with the launch of two specialised training modules.

The Financial Commissioner of the Indian Railways, Ms Vijayalakshmi Viswanathan, would inaugurate C-TARA on May 20. It would be a unique and exclusive centre to upgrade the skills of the railway accountants.

C-TARA will train railway accounts staff from all the Zonal Railways, by providing training in specialised professional subjects. At present, some training is being organised with the National Institute of Financial Management and the Officers Training Institute in Baroda, according to Ms Geetha Thoopal, Financial Adviser and Chief Accounts Officer of the South Central Railway, here.

The centre has been established adjacent to another national training facility called the Indian Railways Institute for Signal and Telecommunication Engineering. Hyderabad also houses another zonal training school of the Indian Railways.

C-TARA will begin with two short-term courses in computerised account transactions and internal audit. It would gradually provide all the necessary accounts training under one roof. The facility would also have a hostel and mess. The foundation stone for the centre was laid last year.
