AP Govt, transport unions resume talks

Hyderabad , July 7

THE Andhra Pradesh Government and Joint Action Committee (JAC) of AP State Road Transport Corporation trade unions have resumed talks. The decision to resume negotiations was taken after the High Court directed the two parties on Wednesday to solve the problem in three weeks.

Addressing a press conference after resuming talks here on Thursday, JAC leaders and members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee (formed to solve the issue) said there would be talks for three days from July 11.

Thereafter, a workshop will be organised to discuss the issue in detail. Experts from the State and outside will attend it. The JAC leaders said the strike had been suspended following the Court intervention.

Hoping that a solution would be found at the end of the three-week deadline, they asked the Government to brief them about the the proposed revival package. "We should know what are the key ingredients of the package," they said.

The Government had announced that it would bail out the ailing corporation by announcing a package in three months. On the proposal to rope in a financial consultant to advise the Government on the revival package, the JAC leaders felt that they too should be involved in the process.

"The views of the professionals and employees should be synchronised," they said. In its order, the High Court had asked the Government to implement the decisions already agreed upon by it. This included the reduction of the Motor Vehicle Tax and reimbursement of concessions announced by the Government to various sections. While directing the JAC to call off the strike, the Court asked the Government not to take action against employees for participating in the strike.
