Leela group to expand apparel unit capacity

THE Mumbai-based Leela group will invest approximately Rs 5 crore in increasing the capacity of its apparel manufacturing facility located at the Kinfra International Apparel Park in Thiruvananthapuram.

According to Mr Venu Krishnan, Executive Director, Hotel Leela Venture Ltd, the additional capacity in Thiruvananthapuram will be ready in six to eight months.

Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation's (Kinfra), which manages the apparel park, will construct the additional buildings required by the Leela group. According to the expansion plan, a new floor will be added to each of the three buildings that constitute the group's apparel-manufacturing facility in the park.

The company, which now employs over 1,100 people at its Thiruvananthapuram apparel unit, expects to double its headcount by next year, said Mr Krishnan. Production at the new unit is expected to start by June 2006.
