Plea to extend service tax payment deadline

DUE to the virtual stand still of Mumbai and parts of Gujarat for the past week on account of torrential rains, the corporate sector has sought extension in the deadline for payment of service tax dues for July from August 5-20.

The chamber has argued that since the movements and business transactions have suffered a huge setback, particularly in Maharashtra and parts of Gujarat, it is not possible for them to honour the deadline of August 5.

Companies have been unable to record their invoices properly and export consignments have been stuck, hence, an extension was required.
