Streamline core banking system, unions tell SBI

Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 25

EMPLOYEES and officers of State Bank of India have demanded that the bank management take effective steps to streamline core banking system in order to deliver fault-free service to customers.

Activists of the State Bank of India Officers' Association (SBIOA) and State Banks' Staff Union (SBSU) jointly staged a demonstration before the Local Head Office here on Tuesday to press for this demand.

While reiterating their commitment to serve customers to their satisfaction, they said the nature of support from the new technology infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired.

Instances galore have been reported in which customers have been made to wait endlessly to get their transactions completed through the core banking system. This has often led to frayed tempers at the counters, with officers and employees being made to bear the brunt of the customer's wrath, they alleged.

Even those branches traditionally known for the quality of service have been made to eat the humble pie after the new technology platform was thrust on them, said Mr M. Sreenath, General Secretary, SBIOA, and Mr John Joseph, General Secretary, SBSU.

This could have been avoided if introduction of the new technology was preceded by adequate pre-migration procedures and comprehensive validation and testing of the security features.

Among those who addressed the demonstrators were Mr Vinayachandran, President, SBIOA, and Mr K. Raja Kurup, President, SBSU. The unions have decided to stage similar demonstrations in front of the SBI zonal offices in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam.
