Commodity Exchanges NCDEX plans futures in onion, potato Our Bureau
Mumbai , Dec. 9 NATIONAL Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) is now taking up the challenge of launching futures contracts for perishable commodities, beginning with potatoes and onions. "We have been researching on potatoes for the last three months and shall be launching the futures contract in potatoes very shortly after obtaining necessary approvals," Ms Sanvali Kaushik, Vice - President - Products, NCDEX said, in a release. "We have also been asked by the authorities to explore trading in onions on our trading platform for better price discovery. We have begun researching the subject and in consultation with the concerned stakeholders, propose to come out with relevant solutions," she said. The launch of futures in potatoes and onions would go a long way in making the supply chain efficient and providing better prices to farmers even while consumers pay a lower price;
