Tata Steel output rises

MUMBAI: Tata Steel recorded a 9 per cent increase in the production of saleable steel at 1.14 million tonnes for the quarter ended December 31, 2005. The steel major also registered a 13 per cent rise in production of hot metal at 1.25 million tonnes and 7 per cent increase in crude steel at 1.13 million tonnes.

"The gains are significant since this quarter had the maximum number of shutdowns for planned maintenance and up gradation to five million tonne capacity," the company said in a news release.
