Rural Development States - Andhra Pradesh AP Govt seeks Rs 1,400-cr Central aid for NREG scheme Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 26 The Andhra Pradesh Government has sought a financial assistance of Rs 1,400 crore for the successful implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). According to the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the State Government has asked for release of Rs 700 crore of funds towards first instalment to facilitate grounding the scheme. He said the State is all set to launch the flagship programme of the UPA Government to ensure 100 days of gainful employment to the small farmers and rural poor. Taking stock of the progress on implementation of the programme here on Sunday, the Chief Minister directed the officials of Rural Development to ensure that necessary arrangements were made up to the village level to build confidence in the farming community to postpone their visits to towns in the summer months in search of livelihood. The CM Office said in a press release that arrangements were made to open post-office and bank accounts for farmers in all the 13 districts selected for the scheme. Payments should be made through the village organisations wherever such post-office facilities were not nearby, the Chief Minister said. He exhorted the officials to effectively implement the scheme that guaranteed 100 days of wage employment to farmers in their hour of need.
