Spot rubber rules steady

Aravindan

Kottayam , July 4

Physical rubber prices continued to stagnate on Tuesday. A steep fall in Japanese markets following heavy long liquidation at higher levels kept the domestic undercurrent slightly weak, sources said.

Covering groups turned inactive, disappointed by the continuous absence of major manufacturers but the prices sustained since there were no quantity sellers. While most of the grades and latex closed unchanged, RSS 4 slipped to Rs 106.25 a kg from Rs 106.50 and Rs 106.75 respectively at Kottayam and Kochi.

Futures weak

The rubber futures fell on NMCE dragged down by extremely bearish international indices. The July contract was traded at Rs 106.00 (Rs 107.11), August contract at Rs 107.49 (Rs 108.98), September contract at Rs 105.00 (Rs 106.09) and October contract at Rs 102.30 (Rs 103.05) per kg for RSS 4. Spot prices per kg were: RSS-4: Rs 106.25 (Rs 106.50); RSS-5: Rs 103 (Rs 103); ungraded: Rs 98.00 (Rs 98.00); ISNR 20: Rs 100.50 (Rs 100.50) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 78.95 (Rs 78.95).
