Thiruvananthapuram , Nov. 1 The Tamil Nadu coast is set to receive another easterly wave in two days, which is expected to trigger a fresh rains. The system will start impacting the coast latest by Friday, according to Dr K.J. Ramesh of the Department of Science and Technology. The resident troughs of `low' over both Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will get accentuated in tandem. The skies over Tamil Nadu have been swept clear of the flows briefly after the passage of Cyclone Ogni. The rainfall from the easterly wave is likely to be concentrated over the interior parts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining Kerala, Dr Ramesh said. There is another trough in the easterlies left behind by Ogni, which extends from Kerala into north-northeast along the southeast coast. IMD has forecast that this trough will cause fairly widespread rains over coastal and south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep during the next two days. The passing easterly trough would add to the intensity of the precipitation. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting has said the troughs of `low' over both the peninsular seas would be active for at least a week from Sunday. Wind shear values, which inhibit the formation of weather-creating systems, will be low to moderate over the Bay, says the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The US National Centres of Environmental Prediction (NCEP) says that the remnant circulation left behind by Ogni will cause the precipitation to concentrate over north interior Karnataka, Vidarbha and Marathwada. Ensuing rainfall has been predicted to measure up to 500 per cent of the weekly normal here.
The rain belt is seen shifting back to the south central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal with effect from November 9. Southern districts of Tamil Nadu and the northeastern Sri Lanka are likely to get impacted by a renewed spell of rainfall.
