Coimbatore Feb. 23 Connect Coimbatore 2007, the reincarnated version of CoimbatoreIT.com, is slated to be held on February 27.

This year, the event aims to showcase the emerging business opportunities in electronics hardware sector, apart from deliberating on growth potential of IT and ITES sectors.

Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry along with Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), CoimbatoreIT.com has been an annual event since 2000. Every edition aimed at positioning the city as the `ideal IT destination'.

And the sustained effort, the association perceives, started to yield results with majors such as the Cognizant Technology Solutions, Tata Consultancy Services, Bosch and about 400 small and tiny units (including foreign companies) in the business process outsourcing/ ITES space preferring to establish their presence here.

The Government-mooted IT park project, which had till now remained on paper, is also set to take off with the Chief Minister Mr M. Karunanidhi, laying the foundation stone on February 24.

Hardware sector

Having managed this far, the CII, according to its Chairman, Coimbatore zone, Mr Jayakumar Ramdass, proposes to showcase the emerging opportunities in the hardware sector. "This is our maiden attempt at tapping the hardware space. We are planning to trigger a hardware revolution. There is enormous potential because the city's strength has always centred round its entrepreneurial culture and manufacturing skills. The emerging entrepreneurs need direction and this edition of the event would address this issue," he said.

Mr K. Thangaraj, Vice-Chairman, CII Coimbatore zone, said the Government's intention to decongest Chennai and promote tier II towns as potential IT hubs paved the way for such developments.

The conference would focus on sessions such as building a global IT services company, the platform for IT growth (with reference to IT education and infrastructure), emerging business opportunities in the hardware sector and creating entrepreneurs for sustaining the growth of IT in Coimbatore.
