Events States - Andhra Pradesh National tech research body to be housed in Hyderabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad May 7 The proposed National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) with the task of putting in place necessary systems for national security will be located in or around Hyderabad. The NTRO is expected to be a premier scientific organisation under the National Scientific Adviser in the Prime Minister's Office. The decision to house it in Hyderabad was taken at a recently held meeting presided over by the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Activities
The organisation's activities include developing technology capabilities in aviation and remote sensing, data gathering and processing, cyber security, crypto systems, strategic hardware and software development and strategic monitoring, according to an official press release.
Other facilities
A National Information Infrastructure Protection Centre will also be part of the NTRO. It will provide R&D in the area of information protection by drawing on the capabilities in industry and educational institutions. It will provide a major catalytic effect on IT establishments in Andhra Pradesh. The NTRO will also have a Disaster Recovery Centre as part of a national information repository exchange generating and disseminating thousands of petabytes on real time for national security related activities, the release added. Another major facility at the Centre would be the National Institute of Cryptology Research and Development (NICRD), which would be a first of its kind in Asia. The NICRD would create a pool of experts in information security for industry and Government. It will design and develop encryption productions of national security applications. It will have modern laboratories such as stimulation labs, digital fortress labs for financial security. The NICRD will have headquarters in Hyderabad with a residential campus centres in other parts of the country.
