Kochi June 17 Despite the major price convergence between assembled and branded PCs from 2004, the assembled segment still constitutes a huge chunk of the market, Mr Ashok Nair, Channel Business Manager, Intel, South Asia, said.

While the price of branded PCs have come down and stabilised, there is still an attractive price differential for assembled PCs.

Mr Nair was here to participate in the bi-annual Inter Channel Conference, which offers an insight into Intel's technology roadmap and emerging market trends, in order to enable the channel to understand the new demands and offer the best solutions for their customers.

Similar conferences are being held across 16 cities in India for their channel partners, who are the customers of Intel and who purchase Intel processors and motherboards from the company for assembling PCs for their customers.

More meets

The conference series will soon have a footprint in metro and non-metro cities alike, including cities such as Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Goa, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana and Pune.

In addition to training the channel participants, Intel would launch the Pentium Dual Core processor E 2140/E 2160 based on the Intel micro-architecture.

The company would also be launching the Intel 3 series chipsets (formally codenamed Bearlake), which is expected to provide consumers enhanced Intel Clear Video Technology and hardware support for Microsoft DX10.

Intel 3 series chipsets also boosts the performance of a faster 1333 MHz front side bus and DDR3 support, PCI Express 2.0 and Intel Turbo Memory for faster application loading boot times, a press release issued here said.

Vital links

The company finds the channel partners a vital link to their geo-expansion plans into the hinterlands of India. Speaking at the conference, Mr Ashok Nair said: "The channel are critical to Intel's success and in this rapid technologically transforming world and we believe that the only way to succeed in offering the best solutions to one's consumers is to lead with technology. This event series enables our channel to be aware of and to offer the hottest and latest technology across all product segments — desktops, laptops and services."

Intel has also invited participation from ecosystem partners, including Nvidia, Kobian, MSI, Asus and Gigabyte, to showcase their offerings at the event. There is also a showcase area, which includes Core 2 Duo small form factor PCs and a gaming demo.
