Sports Marketing - People Ian Chappell in ESPN STAR Sports team
Our Bureau New Delhi, July 2 Ian Chappell will join ESPN STAR Sports’ (ESS) team of Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Alan Wilkins, Wasim Akram and Harsha Bhogle. The former Australian captain expressing enthusiasm for his new role as presenter and commentator said in a release, “Given the fact that every fan expects the very best from us, there is always a lot of pressure on commentators and experts alike to provide in-depth analysis on every aspect of the game. I am looking forward to this challenging assignment.” ESS, the equal joint venture between Walt Disney’s ESPN and News Corp’s STAR has been aggressively pitching its cricket portfolio of 157 days, which starts with India’s upcoming tour of England. Chappell makes his debut on ‘A few Good Men’ team with the series, which comprises four test matches and seven One Day Internationals. “Ian Chappell is rated as one of the best cricket commentators today based on his sound knowledge of the game and his fair and unbiased views on issues relating to cricket. “He has a huge fan following in the subcontinent as well as across the globe,” said Mr R.C. According to industry sources, the broadcaster is close to wrapping up Rs 400 crore of advertising deals with sponsors like Airtel, Reliance and Maruti. Motorola is another brand that ESS is believed to have roped in the last two weeks for packaged sales of its cricket, soccer and Formula One content.
