Viewers get to watch STAR Cricket

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 19 ESPN STAR Sports’ new channel, STAR Cricket, featuring the on-going India-England series, may be having teething problems, but the broadcaster claims to have made it available to 75 per cent of the network’s viewers already.

The broadcaster says STAR Cricket is available in CAS areas and viewers only have to call their cable operator for access.

However, the cricket-only channel could have missed out on some viewers for the lack of aggressive marketing. The channel is yet to strike a deal with multi-system operators like Hathway, and other smaller operators. The issue is believed to be the pricing of the channel at Rs 28. Last minute distribution deals were made with Direct-to-Home service provider, Tata-Sky, on Wednesday evening. STAR Cricket is already available to Dish TV’s consumers. The broadcaster, which has tied up with Incable, finalised a deal with Siticable on Thursday. The deal is for Delhi, Ludhiana and Chandigarh region, in addition to Mumbai and Kolkata.
