Texas unveils new video switches

Bangalore, Aug. 24

Texas Instruments has introduced two new video switches for digital video interface or high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI). The new devices connect either two or three digital video signals coming from devices such as game consoles, digital video switch boxes, set-top boxes or DVD players to a single HDTV display. Both the TMDS351 three-port switch and the TMDS251 two-port switch integrate four transition minimised differential signalling (TMDS) channels, one hot p lug detector and a digital display control interface on each port. Each TMDS channel supports signalling rates up to 2.5 GBps to allow 1,080-pixel resolution in 12-bit colour depth, making it compatible with the HDMI 1.3a standard. The TMDS351 and TMDS251 switches are available now in 64-pin TQFP packages, priced at $2.50 and $1.60, respectively, each in 1,000-piece quantities. —
