Kerala Govt to form IT infrastructure co

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 11 The Kerala Government is set to form a company for the development of infrastructure for IT industries in the State. A decision to this effect was taken by the State Cabinet on Tuesday. The Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, told newspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the company would be formed with private participation with the Government holding 51 per cent equity.

The State budget for 2008-09 will allocate Rs 50 crore for setting up the company. The decision to form the company was taken as several IT majors were evincing interest in setting up shop in the State due to its advantages such as better connectivity and availability of skilled manpower.

According to official sources, the company will take up infrastructure development for the proposed Technocity project in Thiruvananthapuram, expansion of Infopark in Kochi and the IT parks planned in the districts.
