Bangalore, Feb. 18

Sanyo India has set a sales target of Rs 150 crore for its commercial business during 2008-09 even as it plans to start manufacturing batteries for mobile phones and for laptops.

Sanyo India President, Mr K. Oshima, told Business Line that its range of products, including commercial air-conditioners, refrigerators, projectors and solar heaters, had a ready market in India because of high economic activity the country was witnessing.

“With big retail chains coming up in India, we see a huge potential for our products,” he said.

He added that there was a possibility of manufacturing batteries for mobile phones and laptops for the Indian market sometime soon.

Sanyo India’s Vice-President for commercial business, Mr Ravi Gupta, said that all its products were extremely eco-friendly and could save energy between 10 per cent and 25 per cent.

He said there was a huge upswing in the solar heater market and Sanyo had the right products for India.

He added that currently Sanyo India imports all its products from various manufacturing locations of the company, but might look at setting up a few plants in the country itself once the sales pick up.
