New Delhi, March 6 Expedia Inc, an online travel company, on Thursday announced its entry into the country with the launch of expedia.co.in.

Initially the Web site will only offer hotel rooms but would soon expand to provide air tickets and the option of the traveller creating their own travel packages.

Addressing a press conference to announce the launch of India operations, Mr Henrik Kjellberg, President, Expedia Asia-Pacific, said that the site would provide a host of advantages to the visitor including offering the prices of hotel room in rupees.

“The Web site allows payment in rupees.

The prices are quoted up front and include all the taxes and supplier surcharges” he said.

Expedia Inc reported gross bookings of $20 billion last year and Mr Kjellberg said that the company goal was to grow international revenues to half of total revenues. “Burgeoning travel markets like India are key to achieving that goal,” he added.
