Sports Marketing - Strategy Hope, Prince big catches at IPL’s second round bidding Our Bureau Mumbai, March 12 Australian all-rounder James Hope and South African batsman Ashwell Prince were the premium catches at the second round of auction of players for the multi-million dollar Indian Premier League (IPL) event. While Hope was snapped up by Preity Zinta’s Mohali team for $3,00,000, the South African cricketer was picked up by Reliance India’s Mumbai Indians for $1,75,000. Around 14 international players were also auctioned in the second and final auction of the season, at a starting price of $50,000. While Muhammed Yousuf of Pakistan remained unpicked for the second time, all rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas became the first England player to be contracted for the IPL event. Jaipur’s Rajasthan Royals bought Dimitri for a price of $1,00,000. “We were missing out on not having any English player with us, but we have got a breakthrough with Dimitri. We took him on board only after he produced clearance certificates from his county Hampshire and ECB,” said the IPL Chairman, Mr Lalit Modi. Promotions onEach of the teams had some money left and had the option of taking on more players by intimating the IPL governing council before March 18, when the final squad would be announced. Meanwhile, all the franchises are now focussing on promoting their teams and procuring sponsors for them. When asked as to how the Mohali team was preparing, Mr Ness Wadia said, “Well, now we want to win. That is what we are focussing on.” More Stories on : Sports | Strategy
