Strategy Variety - Cinema Goldstone in talks with distributors to market restored Hum Dono M. Somasekhar
Hyderabad, April 11 Goldstone Technologies is in talks with three-four major distributors, including Sony and Adlabs, to market Dev Anand’s black and white movie Hum Dono, which it restored and re-coloured using the latest technology. The Hyderabad-based company plans to work out a revenue sharing model with the distributor. “We expect a business potential of Rs 8 crore for the film, which is expected to be released in theatres,” said Mr C. Jagan Mohan, Head of Media Division. Hum Dono, for which the company paid around Rs 3.5 crore to Dev Anand for the rights, is the first of the series of classics in different Indian languages that Goldstone Technologies has taken up for restoration, he told Business Line. Having secured the rights of nearly 30 films in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil, Goldstone Technologies has ramped up its skilled workforce to 200 and the number would increase to 300 by the end of 2008. “Fortunately, we are able to get people and have created separate facilities,” Mr Jagan Mohan said. Growing demandThe company is in the process of establishing a separate digital service and post-production service divisions to cater to the growing demand for them in the domestic and international markets, he said. As a first venture, Goldstone converted Dev Anand’s classic Guide into digital master, post restoration as it was required to be exhibited at the upcoming Cannes film festival in May 2008, Mr Jagan said. The company is also attempting to do the audio restoration of the film. The company is betting big on the restoration and recolourisation of Maya Bazaar, one of the all-time Telugu hits and technically amongst the best in Indian cinema, Mr Jagan explained. Along with Maya Bazaar, which stars the legends N.T. Rama Rao and S.V. Ranga Rao, Goldstone has bought the rights of all the 13 movies made under the banner of Vijaya Vauhini for restoration in the next two years.
