Chennai, June 10 Print advertising volumes grew by 5 per cent during the first quarter of 2008 as against the same period in 2007, according to a survey by AdEx India. Newspapers accounted for 95 per cent share of the total print advertising pie in the first quarter. Social advertisements lead with 9 per cent share of the total ads, followed by educational institutions with 7 per cent share. The ad volumes are based on column centimetre. BSNL topped the advertisers list in print during the period.According to the study, the main issue of the newspaper garnered 81 per cent share of the overall advertising in newspapers.
During the quarter, the ad volume of radio channel promotions in print was double the ad volume recorded in the first quarter of last year. TV channel promotion grew by 43 per cent during the same period. Sales promotional ads accounted for 15 per cent of the total print advertisements.
Compared with Q1 2007, sales promotional ads recorded a growth of 13 per cent during Q1 2008. Among the sales promotional ad campaigns, discount promotion led with 34 per cent share followed by ‘multiple promotion’ and ‘add-on promotion’ with 22 per cent and 17 per cent share respectively. The ‘L’ shape ad layout was the preferred design in print advertising, the study revealed.
