Murdoch meets PM

Our Bureau

New Delhi, July 31 Mr Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, News Corp, called on the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in the Capital on Thursday. The media magnate, whose interests in the country include the Star Network and the DTH joint venture with Tata amongst others, also met Ms Sonia Gandhi, the Congress President, and Mr L.K. Advani, leader of the Opposition.

During his three-day stay in India, Mr Murdoch will also visit Mumbai where he is expected to meet Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Group, and Mr Aveek Sarkar whose Anand Bazar Patrika is a partner in the television news channel venture.

Although speculation is rife that Mr Murdoch could bring up the issue of FDI limits in print and other media segments, Star officials said he was here to discuss Indian operations with senior Star officials and business partners.
