Dell India opens store in Coimbatore, Delhi

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, Oct. 15 Dell India has opened its first exclusive store at New Delhi and Coimbatore on Wednesday. Both these outlets would sell the company’s range of products – Inspiron, Studio and XPS, said the company’s Director (Consumer Marketing), Mr Girish Mehta.

Stating that the exclusive Dell store would offer the customer a unique buying proposition by combining the company’s direct model (which allows customisation) with the additional benefit of retail availability to browse, touch and feel the product, he said “the customer can see the product and then place an order for the preferred model with the choice to customise the looks and configuration of the unit”.

Mr Mehta said the company was looking beyond customisation to personalisation.

“We are primarily focused on laptops. During the second quarter of the current fiscal, our share shot up by 16.5 per cent. This is relatively high compared with what we recorded at the start last year,” he said, and pointed out that the company was focused on desktop till about a year ago.

“Since then, our laptop market has grown significantly, well above the industry average. We have played a small role in accelerating this market with the introduction of the ‘do-it-yourself’ concept,” he added.

He further said Dell’s retail expansion plans would not stop with Dell Exclusive stores, but plans to sign up with resellers as well.

The company has about 2,000 resellers across the country now.

Asked if the global economic slowdown had any impact on its market, he maintained that it was still early to comment.
