DoT to decide on 3G fee today

New Delhi, Dec. 18

The Telecom Commission, the apex decision making body of the Department of Telecom, is scheduled to meet on Friday to decide on the telecom regulator's proposal to impose a 2 per cent administration charge on 3G players. DoT officials indicated that this proposal may be rejected as it may have an impact on the bid amount quoted by operators. Since the Government is looking to earn maximum revenue from 3G auction, the additional fee may be dropped. According to DoT's estimate, the total income may come down by Rs 5,000 crore if the additional fee is imposed. Operators have already told the Government that they will factor in the additional fee, if it is imposed, when they put in their bids. - Our Bureau
