Hiring outlook positive; but at slower pace

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Jan. 5 The hiring outlook in IT/ITES sector in India remains optimistic in 2009 though the intent has gone down drastically from last year.

sector reported a Net Employment Outlook of 23 per cent for the first quarter of 2009 as compared to 57 per cent last quarter (Q4 2008), according to the recent Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

This outlook is derived from responses collected from HR heads in top IT companies and BPOs. Out of total employers surveyed, 27 per cent anticipated an increase, only 4 per cent reported a decrease in hiring, 58 per cent predicted no change in the hiring intent and the remaining could not comment.

This slowdown in the hiring can be traced to manufacturing and retail sectors drastically cutting their IT spends. However, conditions will gradually improve as India is still regarded as the top destination for outsourcing. The sector which has been a low-cost and high-quality player will emerge big again after the slowdown.
