Tourism States - Kerala KTDC plans more Tamarind hotels Thiruvananthapuram, June 13 In three-four months, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) will have 14 of its Tamarind budget hotels across the State. The company's 12th Tamarind Easy Hotel will open in Nilambur in Malappuram district on Tuesday, said Mr K.G. Mohanlal, Managing Director, KTDC. Meanwhile, the company is in the process of renovating an existing Yatri Nivas and a government guest house to set up Tamarind hotels in Thrissur and Neyyar near Thiruvananthapuram respectively, he pointed out. Both hotels should be ready to receive their first guests in three to four months, he added. KTDC currently has 11 Tamarind hotels in destination such as Mannarkad, Thirunelli, Guruvayur, Alappuzha, Changanacherry, Kalady and Kollam. Several of these properties were earlier operated as a Yatri Nivas and were renovated and brought under the Tamarind brand. Each of these properties has between 10 and 22 rooms with various modern facilities, he said. Rooms in Tamarind hotels are priced between Rs 1,400 and Rs 2,500 depending on the type and capacity of the room. In addition to the Tamarind hotels, KTDC also operates a chain of high end hotels in important tourist destinations across the State. - Sankar Radhakrishnan
