Central funding for AP Tourism projects

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, June 15 The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has lined up a series of tourism projects to be taken up with the Central Government’s financial assistance.

These projects include development of Kuchipudi dance village in Krishna district, development of Dharmavaram Crafts Village in Ananthapur, arts and crafts village at Etikoppaka in Visakhapatnam district, artisan village in Nirmal in Adilabad and beach destination at Baruva in Srikakulam district.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister, Ms J. Geeta Reddy, said the corporation has made major strides in the last few years and is now embarking on the next phase of growth – taking up new projects in rural parts of the State and consolidating infrastructure.

Dual benefit

These projects not only meet some social objectives of encouraging rural artisans but also help in preserving culture and heritage, she felt.

The corporation has become self-supportive and does not depend on any funding from the State for regular business. In fact, it now manages one of the biggest tourist infrastructure of 54 hotels with 1,043 rooms spread across major tourist destinations in the State.
