Hotels Marketing - Standards & Benchmarks Variety - Sports Eateries in Delhi to be rated ahead of Commonwealth Games
Games mascot ‘Shera’ Our Bureau New Delhi, June 29 As many as 886 eateries in the Central Delhi area, close to the Commonwealth Games venues, are to soon come under the scanner. The list includes not only street-vendors and small eateries but also big names such as Domino’s, Pizza Hut and McDonalds. The food safety standard check would include ensuring that the water used for cooking and the hygiene standards meet the guidelines that are being prepared by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Quality Council of India. Eateries meeting these guidelines would be certified by the FSSAI, while the rest would risk closure. With just a year left for the games, the project is to be executed by the Delhi Government together with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The eateries will also be given star ratings. For this, the parameters will include the standard of the food and the quality of the disposal system. Further, the CII plans to help upgrade the eateries wherever the required criteria are not met. Street-food vendors will also be provided new, indigenously designed vending carts. The carts have been designed by CII’s Institute of Quality and will come with a 14-point food safety check. According to Ms Sarita Nagpal, Deputy Director General, CII, the work on inspection and certification would begin within the next month. More Stories on : Hotels | Standards & Benchmarks | Sports
