Scouts for joint venture partners.

Mumbai, Nov. 8 Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation (MKCL), set up by the State Government, plans to set up centres in Indonesia and parts of Africa.

It is now scouting for a joint venture partner in these geographies, Mr Vivek Sawant, Managing Director, told Business Line. In Africa, the company has already kicked off talks with potential allies in Nigeria, Mozambique and Ghana, he added.

MKCL will invest in providing the knowledge assets in terms of trainers and course material for both Indonesia and Africa. “Our model is very clear, the financial investment will have to come from the local partner,” said Mr Sawant.

Education network

The company provides IT education through its network of 5,000 learning centres throughout the country, which are predominantly in semi-urban and rural areas. In the last seven years, it has trained nearly 45 lakh students, both in India and abroad.

It has also set up MKCL International Free Zone Establishment, a 100 per cent arm at Sharjah, UAE to expand its global network in eInfrastructure, eLearning, eGovernance, and eEmpowerment. These initiatives have already begun at the King Saud University of Saudi Arabia.

For the year ended March 31, 2009, MKCL reported a net profit of Rs 17.21 crore on revenues of Rs 215 crore.
