Strategy Facelift for Grand Ashok Our Bureau
BANGALORE, May 20
Grand Ashok, Bangalore, now part of Bharat Hotels, is on a major revamping exercise. By mid-June, the first set of 90 newly furnished rooms will be thrown open to guests, says Mr Aditya Mata, Resident Manager, Grand Ashok. "The message to the public is that it's no longer an ITDC hotel. The building is the same, but the software has changed," he said. "There are plans to phase in younger and multi-functional team members to do away with certain old working styles. The hotel will sport a new look with new team members with a sense of initiative and a distinct style of delivery." Currently, the core management team and a contract workforce are running the hotel. The recruitment process, to be taken up in three phases, is due to start next week. According to Mr Mata, the hotel would be looking at recruiting about 250 people. Apart from putting together a new team to give the hotel a facelift, the hotel will also offer new facilities such as a business centre, a shopping centre and a new rooftop Chinese restaurant. The new set of rooms will be more contemporary in design and facilities Mr Mata explains. The hotel has 93 other rooms that would be renovated in a phased manner, he added. With a tariff of Rs 6,500 plus taxes per night, Grand Ashok is targeting the business traveller. "We want to be known as a luxury business hotel," he says.
