Trimex Sands Private Ltd which carries out beach sand mining in the district, is setting up a dialysis unit at Tekkali for poor patients suffering from kidney diseases.

The company will spend Rs 2.5 crore to set up the unit and for other facilities such as drinking water for patients.

Many poor patients in the region are unable to visit Srikakulam or Visakhapatnam for dialysis once or twice a week, and the unit will provide great relief to them, according to a press release.

It is estimated that over 1,000 persons in the region suffer from kidney ailments. TSPL Managing Director, Pradeep Koneru, and CEO, Ch.G.V.K Murthy, said the District Collector Saurabh Gaur has agreed to establishthe unit.

“We have placed orders for the equipment and it may be here in 3 months. The district administration will oversee the maintenance of the unit. It will deploy the doctors and medical personnel,” he said.
