Auto Expo to highlight R&D, design trends

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan. 7

THE design and research and development (R&D) capabilities of Indian companies and a number of vehicles from global auto majors will be on display at the Auto Expo 2004, the biennial automotive show beginning here on January 15.

"In this edition, we have created `Focussed Pavilions' to show case our strength in R&D and design as there is a lot of interest among global companies to outsource to India," said Mr Subodh Bhargava, Chairman, Trade Fairs at Confederation of Indian Industry, one of the organisers of the show.

Speaking to Business Line here, Mr Bhargava said alternative fuel is another area of attention. Component manufacturers will focus on spreading awareness about the hazards of using fake spare parts through a theme pavilion called `Asli-Naqli'.

Some of multinationals displaying their vehicles at the show include Daimler-Chrysler, Audi, Nissan, Hyundai, Volvo, Skoda, Suzuki and Piaggio.

However, a number of companies such as General Motors, Ford, Toyota and Honda are not participating at this year's show.

Over 960 exhibitors from around 20 countries will participate in this year's exhibition, the seventh since it was first held in 1986.
