Promotions & Offers Variety - Sports Samsung India earmarks $2.5 m for Athens Olympics Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 9 KOREAN consumer appliances company Samsung India today said it has earmarked $2 million-$2.5 million (about Rs 10 crore) in 2004 towards its activities relating to the forthcoming Athens Olympics. The expenditure would go towards sponsorship of the Indian team to the Olympics, the Olympic Ratna programme under which five Indian athletes are being provided with scholarship support, and related marketing/advertising activities. Samsung is the official sponsor of the Indian team to the 2004 Olympics in the consumer electronics, home appliances and telecom category. Incidentally, the company is also the worldwide sponsor of the Athens Olympics in the wireless telecommunication equipment category. "We would be coming out with a range of Olympics-related advertising, though only in print and radio in the first phase," Mr R. Zutshi, Director, Samsung India, said. Meanwhile, Samsung stepped up its Olympics campaign by rolling out its `Run for Ur Dream' nomination programme for the first global torch relay to the Athens Olympics. Through this programme, Samsung is inviting participation from the general public in nominating torchbearers.
