Trends Vizag farmers storm Collectorate, stage demo Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam , Feb. 25 FARMERS from Atchyuthapuram mandal in Visakhapatnam district stormed the Collectorate here on Wednesday and staged a demonstration seeking enhancement of compensation for lands identified for acquisition for setting up a special economic zone. They submitted a memorandum to the district collector, Mr Sunil Sharma, seeking enhancement of compensation from Rs 2.75 lakh per acre (recently announced by the Government) to Rs 4 lakh and listing out other demands. They also sought jobs for at least one member of the families to be displaced. The Collector received the memorandum and promised them that he would pursue the matter. The Government has identified more than nine thousand acres for the SEZ.
