IA launches package for Indo-Pak one-day series

CRICKET lovers planning to cheer the Indian team during the forthcoming one-day series in Pakistan can now consider picking up `three-nights four-days' package being offered by Indian Airlines (IA).

The state-owned airlines on Tuesday launched the special package, which for a fixed price, offers a three-night stay and breakfast at the Holiday Inn hotel at Lahore.

A passenger availing himself/herself of the package from Chennai will have to pay Rs 34,405, while those purchasing the package in Bangalore will be charged Rs 34,120. Similarly, a passenger from Delhi will be charged Rs 18,800, while from Mumbai the package will cost Rs 29,610.

At present, the package available till April 30, is being sold in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jaipur, among others. Passengers from other cities will have to pay extra amount. However, the package does not include the cost of a ticket to watch the match.

Addressing a press conference, the IA Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Sunil Arora, said that a decision on the airline operating flights for the test series is likely to be taken on Wednesday at a meeting to be held at the Ministry of External Affairs.

On the issue of IA operating flights from Mumbai to Pakistan, Mr Arora said that there were some immigration issues, which were being looked into before the commencement of the flight.

He said that the airline is to soon get some more aircraft on lease, which will be utilised to provide more capacity on the trunk routes. On the issue of IA reducing airfares on the Gulf region, he said that this might happen during the summer season.
