Chambers back talks with naxals

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Oct. 28

EVEN as doubts are being expressed over the continuation of talks between the Andhra Pradesh Government and naxalites, the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) and the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) have felt that the process should continue.

Mr Mahendra K. Sanghi, President of ASSOCHAM, told Business Line that "dialogue, dialogue and dialogue alone" could solve the problem.

Mr O.P. Goenka, President of FAPCCI, too felt that the process should continue. "It is very important to continue the dialogue," he said.

Observers cited verbal duel between the two sides on contentious issues of arms, implantation of coverts and grabbing hundreds of acres as major roadblocks for continuation of talks.

Mr Goenka observed that there should be a pragmatic approach in solving the problem. Referring to the naxalites' demand that thousands of acres of land given to corporates should be taken back, Mr Goenka said such demands were not practical.

Complimenting the Government for initiating the dialogue, Mr Sanghi and Mr Goenka termed the process "positive".
