HSBC's `Helping Hands Mela' in Hyderabad

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: Thirty-nine branches of HSBC spreading across 21 cities in the country will host a six-day `Helping Hands Mela 2005' on their premises. Open to bank's customers and others, the mela allows non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that work for uplift of tribals, children, women and physically and mentally challenged to sell and their display their products.

At Hyderabad, the mela was opened by Ms Tejdeep Kaur, Additional Commissioner of Police (Coordination). Quoting the line "I must have done something good' from the movie `Sound of Music'," she said many lives would have been forgotten but for the timely help from the foundations.

"The mela also acts as a forum for our staff to interact closely with NGOs and understand the issues facing the communities around them," a bank official said on the mela.

Mahila Sanatkar, Hrudaya Foundation, Roshini and Serenity Foundation set up stalls here.
