Software Info-Tech - Broadband Sasken develops modem for broadband DSL Vishwanath Kulkarni
Mr Rajiv Mody, CEO, Sasken
Bangalore , Dec. 8 SASKEN Communication Technologies has developed a modem for broadband DSL, which is being tested by the country's leading telecom operator at various locations. Mr Rajiv Mody, CEO of Sasken, said that the company is exploring various options to commercialise the modem including possible tie-ups with PC OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). The company is also looking at launching the modem under its own brand name. Sasken expects to receive certification from the operator over next few weeks, Mr Mody said, adding that the company would market the product at "aggressive" price points. The company had been working on the development of broadband modem for the past 8-10 months and may commercialise it over the next few quarters, he added. "India is a very significant market and we cannot afford to ignore it," Mr Mody said, adding that broadband would take off in the country as the telecom operators were trying to build up the subscriber base aggressively. Sasken is also getting into newer areas such as testing for the handset side of the business, he said. "We have a small exposure to the testing business, which we want to expand." The company expects to make significant investments in the testing space, Mr Mody said, but refused to give details. Sasken, which went public recently, reported a 78 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 11.67 crore on revenues of Rs 86.39 crore for the quarter ended September over the corresponding previous period. Revenues from software services stood at Rs 70.8 crore while the products business accounted for Rs 15.5 crore. The Sasken scrip ended at Rs 375 on Wednesday on the BSE, an increase of 5.51 per cent over the previous close of Rs 355.40.
