New Delhi , April 5

Tech is `very cool' for Indian kids who are increasingly becoming savvy due to the growing access to computers, mobile phones and DVD-VCD players.

The New Generations 2005 survey by Cartoon Network has indicated that 74 per cent of the sample aspired to own mobile phones with camera. The study covered 4,043 kids aged 7-19 years of age in SEC A and their parents in 14 cities. About 40 per cent of the kids surveyed were found to be computer users with a higher percentage in SEC A group. It was also found that one in six computer users also surf the Internet and more boys surf the Net than girls.

There is hardly any difference in the Internet usage among kids in SEC B and C. "This is because the penetration of computers in the two groups is not very different. Similarly, the usage of consumer goods in these two markets are also not very divergent." Most of the kids surf the Net in school, which makes the consumption patterns similar, said Mr Duncan Morris, Vice-President Research and Market Development, Turner International Asia Pacific.
