Modules for data automation software

The company is looking at launching an entire release from the Pune centre by the end of next year.

Pune , May 23

The Massachusetts-based BladeLogic Inc., provider of data centre automation software, has opened a research and development facility in Pune.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Vijay Manwani, Chief Technology Officer, BladeLogic, said the Pune centre would help in building modules for its suite of data centre automation software. He said there are four modules — compliance, provisioning, patch management and application management. Of this, patch management is being done from Pune and the company is planning to develop one more from Pune.

The company was looking at launching an entire release from the Pune centre by the end of next year, he said.

According to him, data centre automation has emerged as a large market opportunity in IT, as organisations have transitioned their data centres from legacy computing platforms to the Web-computing model. This architectural change has created a discontinuity in the marketplace, as existing software solutions are not designed to address these data centre management challenges, he said.

Mr Manwani said that currently Indian outsourcing companies had a small but growing data centre automation practice groups and larger outsourcing talent and revenues.

Comparing this with China, he said the expertise in system hardware and firmware development would lead its system management knowledge and India should protect its global software market share by enhancing its expertise in data centre automation software and system software product development.

Looking at the Pune centre, he said the company was looking at a headcount of about 150 by end-2007 and 50 by the end of this calendar year.

Mr Manwani said the company would be filing for the initial public offer by the first quarter of 2007 and would be coming out with the offer by the second quarter of that year.
