Contour Hotels and Resorts, a Changanacherry-based resort management company, is setting up a resort along the backwaters in Alappuzha.

Addressing a press conference in the city on Wednesday, Mr Ajith Kumar A.R., General Manager, Contour Hotels and Resorts said that the construction work on the resort had started.

The 10-room hotel, likely to be called Contour Backwaters, is scheduled to start operations by September 2007.

The company currently operates two small resorts - Contour Jungle Resort at Konni in Pathanamthitta district and the recently commissioned La Exotica in Varkala near Thiruvananthapuram, he added.

ECO-FRIENDLY RESORT

Contour Jungle Resort, which started operations a few months ago, is an eco-friendly hotel with 14 cottages and is surrounded by forests, he claimed.

To promote this property, the company is organising a `jungle carnival' at the hotel. The carnival begins on Friday and will go on till September 25.

A number of special activities such as jungle treks, bird watching programmes, jeep safaris and cultural programmes by tribal people from the area would be organised during the carnival, Mr Ajith Kumar explained.

The resort will also play host to an exhibition and sale of tribal handicrafts during this period, he added.

The company has developed special holiday packages for visitors during the carnival period. According to Mr Ajith Kumar, a one-night two-day package is priced at Rs 995 per person and includes breakfast and accommodation on a twin-sharing basis.

The company has also developed two `day' packages, he added.
