New Delhi , Sept. 24

To showcase and bring forth the opportunities for public-private partnerships for inclusive growth in the agricultural sector, the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) is organising the Agri-Summit, 2006 on September 28-29.

Objectives

The summit will provide a platform to all stakeholders in diversified Indian agriculture including farmer's groups to come together with primarily three objectives.

The first objective is to review and create awareness on the state of agri-marketing reforms and market development in the country with special reference to developments at the national and State levels.

Second, to catalyse private sector investment and public-private partnerships in the area of agriculture marketing through knowledge dissemination and deployment of key recommendations for the 11th five-year plan.

Third, to enable effective integration of a larger proportion of the farming community in the mainstream market-related developments.

Ms Radha Singh, Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, will inaugurate the summit. Also present will be dignitaries and leaders such as Ms Dina Umali, Agricultural Economist, World Bank, Washington; Mr Abhiram Seth, Executive Director, PepsiCo India, and Mr S. Sivakumar, CEO, Agribusiness, ITC Ltd. Mr Sharad Pawar, Union Minister of Agriculture, will give the valedictory address.
